Inspired by the primordial cow Audhumla, this painting depicts a moment of arrival rather than a literal retelling of myth. In Norse cosmology, Audhumla emerges from the first ice of creation and nourishes the beginnings of life. Here she appears mid-materialization, not fully of the world yet, transmitting light into the landscape around her.
Her body is both present and permeable. Light moves through her rather than simply shining from her, suggesting a being that exists between realms. The surrounding water receives and reflects that transmission, carrying it outward into the quiet environment.
The landscape does not react with spectacle but with stillness. The environment serves as witness to this moment of emergence. Her arrival is calm and inevitable - a force that sustains life rather than dominates it.
